This is a regular podcast of mostly guest DJ mixes and live sets from producers, live acts and DJ's who are rising or established talent.
Subscribe via iTunes | Interview & Tracklist Guests are encouraged to explore a bit further into their collections with an opportunity to step away from the dance floor if they desire. For the forty first episode we invite Jay White, GOT Music alumni back again, he previously put together Episode 41, this time approaching things from a slightly different angle. I really enjoy Jay's mixes, they more often than not take me down a rabbit hole of new labels and producers that I had not come across and this mix is no different. The mix is Slow Life Initialising, in his words is the process of embracing a lifestyle that emphasises a more intentional and deliberate approach to daily life, focusing on quality over quantity and slowing down to appreciate the present moment. I agree that the mix is embodies this concept, I've had a great couple of listens, while busy with my work day and also will full focus and attention on the speakers. I enjoyed the latter much more and encourage you to do the same. Tracklist
Interview Questions First I wanted to say, thanks for putting together another mix for RecThera. The artwork has the title slow life initialising Can you tell me a bit more about the concept or ideas for the mix? Something's been on my mind alot recently. Our Utopia of online connectivity has been infiltrated. A once safe haven for, what i like to call, "the others" is full of thieves and charlatans. It's being filled with corporate greed, misinformation, racism and hate. It's increasingly difficult to escape advertisers and their marketing data collection everywhere I go. Big Tech Bros in our lives thieving the very essence of what makes you unique. The race to provide ever increasing amounts of content to keep pace with their algorithms lest you fall off the edge of their universe. The rise of the influencer / instagram DJ where a million DJs worldwide are all playing the same beatport top 100. AI and Technology designed to make life easier has become the function to mass produce mediocrity. It can leave one feeling quite disillusioned. That's where I came across the concept of the slow life movement. Slow living is a lifestyle that emphasizes a more intentional and deliberate approach to daily life, focusing on quality over quantity and slowing down to appreciate the present moment. It's a conscious choice to prioritize what truly matters. It's about creating space for meaningful experiences, savoring each moment and living with intention. It became very apparent that this was the ethos behind our Got Music experiment and with that in mind i decided to create a series of mixes that reflected this. A mix not fixated on the latest craze, the latest banger or the latest identity with a 3 week lifespan. A mix that takes the time to appreciate the art on offer. Timeless and genre free. A mix that you would want to return to for that feeling of escape from the pressures of modern living. A mix that makes you feel wholesome and positive about your day. What has been inspiring you of late? Life is a never ending source of inspiration. Musically, the Got Music family and guests are a constant. They cast a wide net in the search for great music and it's a pleasure to be involved with it. Folks who I think are really pushing at the edge would have to be the likes of Limbo Tapes and Jahtari. My fav new label would be the dub balearic crew slick'n'bobby whose 2 releases so far have me enchanted. On a personal level, the human race's pursuit of knowledge has exploded the past few years with new insights into our understanding of the cosmos all the way down to the infinitesimal sub atomic level that I find endlessly fascinating , although this appears to be under attack from the troglodytes like Trump et al. What are you listening to right now? Right now ? I'm totally enjoying Adrian Sherwood's The Collapse of Everything. Anything else you would like to share? We'll hopefully have some news to share soon about some plans for a New Year’s Day soiree so stay tuned.
