This is a regular podcast of mostly guest DJ mixes and live sets from producers, live acts and DJ's who are rising or established talent.

Guests are encouraged to explore a bit further into their collections with an opportunity to step away from the dance floor if they desire.

For the forty first episode we invite JUG, an Sydney based Vinyl selector with a deep knowledge of the dance floor along with more esoteric vibrations and grooves to provide the soundtrack.

The mix is like a careful curated excursion incorporating organic psychedelic down tempo moments, that slowly builds up on a journey. Digging deep with  lots of variety - broken, deep, and groove laden. It wouldn't be amiss at a kick on or at a GotMusicCrew event where we had him step up for an afternoon set for Got Music presents Mercury Strut New Years Day 2025.

The mix is a great snapshot of JUG's expansive musical influences and record collection.
As always, turn it up lock in and enjoy the music!

Interview
First I wanted to say, thanks for putting together this mix for RecThera.

What was the inspiration for this mix?
No problem, thanks for giving me the opportunity to put something together. I had many ideas but settled on the fact that it needed to be deep, trippy, chilled but still get a groove on, I wanted it to be broken and to be as long as it could be. I also thought to play some tunes that would be good to listen to while making breakfast. Interesting yet solid at the same time.

How do you find the music scene in London compared to Sydney?
It’s been sometime since I lived in London, so things have changed. There is always something going on. Somethings are obvious and others require a bit of digging around. Then some are purely by chance. Last time I was there I spent a bit of time at Spiritland, which is a listening bar, that was nice.

I really enjoyed that. You can sit at a table have a drink and nibble and be deep within the sound system, surrounded by speakers and other analogue goodness.

What has been influential for you musically in the past, and also more recently?
Huge question…... I have always loved lots of different music. As I get older my taste is getting even broader. Everything from space rock, psych folk, electronica, dub, house, techno.
Early on I was really into the label ~scape and have always loved Kit Clayton. All of the early Italian techno, Marco Carola, Gaetano Parisio, Southsoul and Question.

Massive fan of Ken Nordine. I also have to say I met Biz nearly 25 years ago. Hanging out with him at bpm and going to all the parties he was playing and putting on really shaped the way I thought about music.
Over the last few years Jackson Fester's  FBI radio show Limbs Akimbo has been a big inspiration.

What are you listening to right now?
Right at this moment I am listening to an old Susumu Yokota album – The Boy and the Tree.
This afternoon I was listening to Nick Cave’s album - Ghosteen while I was driving around.

Who or what is inspiring you musically and otherwise?

Jonathan Fittoussi is making some interesting sounds. I’ve been on a John Swing buying spree, I love his stuff, stripped back raw grooves. Mr G’s downtempo work is something I have been listening to. Brendon Moeller's latest releases also are on point. Architectural is putting out some nice stuff. Always been a sucker for a 10”.

Recording this has inspired me to do more mixes. Which is something that I have wanted to do for a long time.

My friends are a big influence. They still have the passion and love for collecting and playing records. Whether it’s out or at home. Jamie B has never stopped sending me mixes, I love that.

Ben Rourke grooving like a mad dog, Stefano Pellegrini is the duke, his collection and gear is a constant inspiration, Sinclair, always quality.
JKA is always on the search, Chop Stuey, Ming D and Stavros are all still at it. SA PA doing his thing. Marco Shuttle is travelling the world sprinkling his techno on the masses. Milo Bragg and his exceptional taste, Och has always been there, Henry & Ant and their barn sessions.

I love the fact that after all these years the simple act of looking for, buying, playing and listening to records is such a massive and important part of our lives. Good music, good people the perfect recipe.

Recording this has inspired me to do more mixes. Which is something that I have wanted to do for a long time.

Where can we see or hear your next project?

Nothing lined up. I don’t play out much. I would love to do something that catered for those that really want to listen, get deep and be home for midnight. I was chatting to a friend who lives in NYC this week and he was telling me that coffee shop raves are a thing…….

Anything else you would like to share?

My Soundcloud got hacked so I lost everything. So, I need to start from scratch. I currently have 1 follower! (thanks Jamie B). I’m keen to get a monthly mix up there.  If your keen on follow along.

This is a recording of my Set at the Mindfield party in April earlier this year. It was a great vibe continuing the flow of the evening from 1:30am to give some context of the energy and track selection. Was an awesome evening!

We celebrated Albert's birthday in style. Thanks again for the invite to share some tunes.
