I was happy to put together this mix for esteemed Naarm, Melbourne based DJ James Steer. Our connection was forged through the love of similar tastes through Soundcloud. For this mix the idea was to imagine playing to the tail end of an all nighter - last set of the night or morning when people are winding down. I included a bunch of records I have been slowly collecting together to record a deeper mix like this. The selection includes some old favourites by Photek, The Connection Machine, Echospace and Basic Channel, some top shelf recent releases from friends - Albert Chiovenda, Neotex and Simon Mann and a new one by Berlin based artist Insomanist from the First Light EP that was released this week on Delphic Iris Records. Tracklist 1 Plastikman & Chilly Gonzales - In Side (In Key) [Turbo] 2 Pub - Derail [Ampoule] 3 Mark Thibideau - Distance Between [Sub Static] 4 Rod Modell - Solar Cross [DeepChord] 5 Deepchord Presents : Echospace - Abraxas [Modern Love] 6 John Shima - Digal001 [diametric.] 7 Nick Araguay - Gédéon [Sähkö] 8 The Connection Machine - Several UFO's Picked Us Up [Down Low] 9 Sam McQueen - Outer Drive [Delsin] 10 Basic Channel - Quadrant Dub I [Dub I Edit] [Basic Channel] 11 Simon Mann - Martian District [Madah Sounds] 12 The Connection Machine - The Primers Mite [Down Low] 13 Insomanist - First Light [Delphic Iris] 14 Photek - T'raenon (Version) [Applied Rhythmic Technology] 15 Arne Weinberg - A True Story [Matrix] 16 Om Unit - Can You Dub It? For the second instalment of our somewhat irregular mix series, co-owners Drox and 16faces team up for a rare IRL session—recorded while crossing paths in Sydney over the Aussie summer break.
One of my fav parties so far this year!! Recorded live on January 1st, 2025 at The Lord Gladstone, Sydney Part of Got Music's : Mercury Strut NYD party. This b2b mix unfolds in 30-minute chunks, blending deep, rounded grooves, otherworldly synths, and lush sunny textures—including a few rare vinyl gems to kick off the year. Drox delivers choice house and Detroit deep cuts, while 16 Faces leans into UK garage, bass, and grimey-tinged flavours. A soulful, summery ride with just the right amount of grit. It’s a shift from our usual darker, more pensive sound—but a perfectly timed to the Euro summer on the horizon. Hope you enjoy the selections. Introducing Delphic Iris Records' Fourth Vision.
Behind the Violet Veil is a collaborative debut EP from Bath’s new talent, Larkhall Paul, and Delphic Iris Co-owner 16 Faces. This joint effort marks Larkhall Paul's first foray into the world of music releases, with both of them diving deep into UK bass experiments and offering a bold and innovative sonic experience through their creative fusion. Mastered by the talented brothers at Tangible Air (Ilian Tape), the EP boasts a heavyweight low end that enhances its exploration of mysterious and secret prophecies, said to echo through the ancient town of Delphi. Each track is unified by the ambiguity of its garage-style chopped and screwed vocals, alongside funk-infused purple synths, pads, and a rumbling low end—perfect for a ritual club experience. One part Neo-Grime, one part Bristol’s purple-step, with just a dash of autonomic sexiness, Behind the Violet Veil presents a unique sonic journey. Two tracks are pressed onto a limited edition 7” dub, with a third included as a bonus digital track. Tracklist : A. 16 Faces - Delphic Whispers B. Larkhaul Paul - Silent The Voice Digital Bonus Track : 16 Faces - Delphic Whispers (Larkhall Paul Remix) Promo Feedback : “Delphic Whispers is naughty” - Bloodtrust (3024) "Drumwweeerk! and Bass! Drox - Hexameter EP [Delphic Iris Records // DI002]
Delphic Iris Records is pleased to unveil its third vision Drox's debut solo 12” EP, "Hexameter." This EP features a high-energy remix by 16 Faces, adding a distinct clattering 160 bpm 808 beatdown to the collection. “Hexameter” brings together a diverse range of sounds, from machine funk and intricate acid lines to engaging detroit-styled dystopian and alien-like synth scapes. Each track offers a unique auditory experience, inviting listeners to explore new otherworldly sonic territories. Drox emphasizes rhythmic interplay throughout the EP, with a strong focus on groove. The use of rhythmic hexameters and their accents creates a series of tough, dancefloor-focused electronic groove tools. We welcome Matt Lush to the very first instalment of the Delphic Iris Mix Series recorded live from our launch last year at KIMCHI records. Berlin, a killer deep and groove heavy all vinyl set recorded on their lovely Bozak mixer for extra crispy sound. This series is a handpicked selection of artists and friends of the label whom we enjoy their vibe, energy, and thoughtful musical curation. We aim to highlight both our own releasing artists as well as selectors in our general community, whether they are based in Berlin, Sydney, or beyond. As eclectic and chaotic as the Delphic Iris's visions themselves, our mix series will be somewhat sporadic in schedule and touch on both functional club music and its weirder hybrid edges. The series aims to channel otherworldly energy, intricate rhythms, and textures that we hope will take you on wild and unique journeys. Matt Lush Born in Melbourne and currently based in Berlin, Matt has been playing records and hosting events for over 20 years. Originally a more straight up techno deejay, inspired by the likes of Mills and Garnier; these days Matt likes to traverse the dark line between techno, house, electro and acid music. His artistry behind the decks is a perfect blend of infectious energy, deep musical knowledge and seamless mixing, expertly reading the room who is equally at home in an intimate club space to an expansive warehouse party. Happy Bandcamp Friday! Today is a very special day as it is our honour to announce the official release of our debut 12" 'The Moat Remixes' on Delphic Iris Records which is out now!! Available on Bandcamp exclusively shipping from Berlin as 140g Vinyl and digi download. https://delphicirisrecords.bandcamp.com/album/di-001-the-moat-remixes A bit of info about the release... "The elusive Hackney basement dweller Alpha Delta colloquially known as Alpha D drops his debut single “The Moat” as the very first The headline single inspired by a faithful rave session in Croatia where Alpha D was simultaneously emotionally touched, scarred and sonically pummelled by kick drums at a wild and stormy Dimensions Festival. This dark techno beast was the aggressive, distorted acid offspring of that faithful night raving between the mud and tears of the crowd at the formidable Moat stage at Punta Christo. Complementing the original mix Drox chimes in with a low end electro breakbeat bass bin rattler for us that delves into melancholic and psychedelic 303 territory. Critical Automator then takes us on a deep and elegant techno journey transcending both murky seas and lush hazy skies in his dub mix. Definitely dialled back from the OG mix but there is no shortage of kick drum energy in this one. For the final remix 16 Faces cooks up complex drum work and funk driven baselines in a hybrid 146 bpm number that’s a just a touch rave, grime and idm in his 5am mix. The off beat stabs and euphoric strings are plentiful, more than enough to get your through any wobbly kneed sunrise. |
Drox's music can be described as heavily influenced by electro and indeed, electro past and present in all it's forms is one of his primary inspirations. But that is only one part of the picture. Techno, house, dub, ambient, experimental and all manor of deep experimental music are integral to his sound, and it's not easy to file him under any one genre or any one style or mode of production.
