I discovered his music several years ago after stumbling across a Pitchfork in depth guide to African music by Joe TangariI (which I still recommend checking out Africa 100: The Indestructible Beat and the tracklist is also here )
One of the songs included on the compilation that stood out for me that was different and not influenced by the other artists at the time was the synth and drum machine laden ode to the superpowers that be to end the Atomic War.
The track was William Onyeabor - Better Change your Mind and ever since then I have been searching for a copy of his aptly titled Atomic Bomb self released album from 1978 which change hands on on eBay and Discogs for more than a few dollars..
Yesterday Noisey posted a documentary about the man that I'll admit I didn't know much about. It turns out that maybe not many other people did either.
